Nowadays, the movie theatres get a lot of crap like this. But i was pleasantly surprised by this one. No, this is not a version of "Halloween" or "Night of the Living Dead" but it is a VERY different movie. There's something unique about it. First of all, it's a French movie, the director has a great eye for cinematography, he doesn't have too many fantasy sequences but he does add in some "quaint" scenes. Although it isn't a total comedy, it is very entertaining. It's good to see that people actually actually LIKE this movie. I say give it a try.
A film that makes you feel very old. The last time I laughed this much was in the 50's. I am not sure why but it does. It is the story of a film that was released during a very difficult time in the French history. The real heroes were the ones who lost their lives. The movie is about the struggle to overcome the bad times. And it is a bit of a tragedy. But that is not what makes this movie great. It is a movie that is about the end of the world. The world has been destroyed, but the world is not finished yet. The movie is also a story of love, which is very important for us. There are no winners and no losers. The main character is Max and the only other person who seems to be able to help him is Léon. The movie has a lot of comedy. But that is the reason why I give it a 9 out of 10. If you are looking for a great comedy, this movie is not for you. But if you are looking for a movie that will make you feel old, then this movie is for you.
My brother has this movie. I've seen it several times. It's a beautiful movie. It shows that is really one man's view of the future. And how the character Lenny played by Max can show the view of the future. I highly recommend this movie. It makes me think of the future and how we can prepare for it. It's really a wonderful movie to watch. It makes you think of what will happen when the end of the world arrives. But just watch it you might be surprised at how it is all going to end.
.and I didn't find it to be overly offensive, but I have to admit that I laughed quite a bit at it. The plot line was decent, but I find it to be more of an entertainment than a serious viewing. In fact, I think it is a bit of both. Having not read the book, I was happy to leave it to my own opinions. It certainly had its good points, and it really didn't take much to be completely convinced by the ending. I can say that the best scenes were when the characters were eating dinner, so that can be the fault of the scriptwriter. Not too many good points, except the fact that it is another German movie, which is not too often that I have seen a German movie be worth the movie to itself. I really like a lot the French setting in this one. I liked it and thought it was well done. Nothing much to complain about in general. As for the acting, it was solid. All the actors did an excellent job and there were no noticeable performances to look at. Except for the odd older lady, everyone looked like they were from the same age. There were some fine performances, and the actors were quite convincing. However, there were some moments where they looked a bit too young for the part, although the ages seem to be right for them. Well done, I can say that. I also have to admit that the movie was filmed very well, which is another thing that might make you a little disappointed. It was shot with a very effective way, and even though I have to admit that the bad taste looks good on the screen, there were parts when the scenes looked just a little too green and other times the colors were not even very pleasant. In general, the movie was well made. The set design was good, although I found the first scene quite dull. Still, it had its good points and it gave me a little smile, which is something I really don't have often. It was a bit similar to many other movies that I have seen in this genre, but I don't really see anything as wrong with it. Some more serious viewing might do it. The only thing that I found annoying was the soundtrack, which was very melodramatic. It added little to the film, and it could have been avoided. In addition, I found the movie to be somewhat hard to watch. The story line was well-written, but the movie itself was hard to watch. If you want to know how to say it, here is a hint: it was. long.
In a comment earlier, I mentioned that this movie is a kind of revenge porn. This is actually a kind of comedy, but it is also a sort of satire on the French (not English) version of war movies. The first act is filled with torture scenes, but it is also filled with sex and absurdity. By the end, I had a feeling that I just saw a 2-hour short. After that, there is a full frontal nudity shot that will make you laugh and tears fall. This is a nice action movie with just enough romance to keep it interesting. There are also a few social messages in it, but they are little strong and not very original. I think the acting of most of the characters are good, but it is hard to tell who is the real hero and who is the real villain. Not bad, but not great either. But it is just a little bit better than some other French comedies out there. I recommend you to watch it and judge yourself!
A strange mixture of humor, romance and drama that also works as a political statement about the effects of World War II on French society. It was the only film ever to win the Cannes Film Festival for best foreign film and it was nominated for an Oscar. It is a fascinating study of the relationships between the three main characters. Max, a young, idealistic French officer, and his fellow soldiers are told by the French military leadership that they have to be the "strongest men" in the world. The idealism of the officers and the soldiers is so great that they would risk their lives for their country and their comrades, and this is what drives the film. Léon, the most experienced of the officers, has a wife and a young daughter, who is often ignored by his men. The two of them are not really a good match, but they are so much alike that they seem to be the same person. Max and Léon are a match made in heaven, but they are not completely happy together, and that's what drives the film. It is a great story, and a great movie. It is not a romantic comedy, but it is a real story about love, and how people can change from one relationship to another, just because of the choices they make.
First of all, I want to express my deep thanks to the movie makers for the fine job they did and the wonderful cooperation they shared with the French and other nationalities for the premiere and other film festival this great movie is an absolute delight. I loved the movie, but I would like to ask you guys, should you see it? In this case, this is a very good movie, you are a real treat to a film. The performances of the French actors in the movie, are also a real treat, well done. I could not care less if the actors did not speak French, French would not be any thing to me! Of course, the same can be said about the actors in other countries, but you know, we have had the chance to see with their own eyes. And if it's a big star, French or not, you cannot go wrong. Thus, I cannot wait to see again the French actors on the big screen, with the French language. I was lucky enough to see this movie in Cannes, and this year at Cannes I hope to see it again, and on DVD. The preview of this movie is great, and I look forward to seeing it again, on DVD.
To say I was curious about this movie would be an understatement. Being a huge fan of "Le Catastrophe" and it's sequels, I had read some positive reviews about this movie, and I had been concerned as to whether it would live up to its name and title. A French production at that, I'm sure I would be disappointed, and I was certainly willing to find out for myself. And I was pleasantly surprised. The problem is that I had heard so many bad reviews about this movie, and having been to some length at the movies in the past, I had read too many good reviews to understand their reasoning. To give them all credit, however, they were all totally at odds with each other. It must be pointed out that not only was this movie extremely enjoyable for me, but so were the other two sequels to the so-called "Catastrophe." They were both spectacular, and this one is no exception. (It did not play out in the same way in the fourth, and consequently, the fifth, movies, but all three made excellent choices.) Having seen the movie and understood it was set during WWII, I started out with a much better appreciation for the movie, and my appreciation for the classics continues. It's not that the movie had a particularly bad storyline, as I think the book and the book adaptations are often quite similar. The problem was that the storylines were told in a way that made them look so shallow. The problem is that the storylines in this movie, and they have been told before, are not shown in a way that made them look very deep and full. In fact, they're not all that much deeper, and I think the movie could have done better. But as it is, this is the best movie in the series, and it's still better than it's sequels.
You may have heard of this movie or seen it elsewhere before, and if you did then I would suggest you find it again. While many of the comments I read here (and while I have read the book and it was superb) have expressed a dislike of this movie, I would disagree. Personally I find it fascinating and inspiring, and I think it is quite a portrayal of reality in both the situations and the humor. The film is definitely a must-see.
I can't believe it's been 7 years since I watched this film. It's been a while, but it really is a classic. There are so many great things about it. The whole plot twists and turns and you never know what to expect next. The acting is excellent. Francois Girard was right on the mark in his portrayal of Max. Just brilliant. Just like the rest of the cast, he never once got over the fact that he was playing a fictional character. The way he carried out this role was astonishing. His face was the perfect expression of this wonderful character. The dialogue is very, very good. It's witty, intelligent, and sometimes has a good amount of humour. There are some really great one liners and you really don't mind hearing them. The films ending is pretty weak. It's no shock to me because I have read the book and it is a lot better. The acting is also really good. François Girard plays a great character and he really makes Max's character very believable. I hope he wins an Oscar for this film. Another good performance is of actor Jean-Louis Trintignant who played Lenny. He has also performed in a number of other really good films and he is probably one of the best French actors in France. The film has a good pace and has a great script. It's just one of those films that's a classic that has really aged. It's a classic for good reason, it's really good.
This film might seem like just another good french movie with some style and intensity and lots of conflict. But if you are a fan of Truffaut's movies, then this one might be a highlight. He directs and produces this film in a way which is very familiar to Truffaut's past work, yet with a slight, and not so subtle, twist. He takes a light, indirect approach to the production. There are no fancy CGI effects and nothing extravagant, because the purpose of the film is to let the viewer be distracted by the charm and style of Truffaut's films. In this film, the slow and almost silent pace is used to describe a man on the run. Truffaut didn't want to tell the story of a man on the run, but he uses it to emphasize the transition between the two jobs of the father of the two brothers and the function of the society which continues after the death of one of the brothers. It is not a commercial production, and it doesn't necessarily have any meaning to the audience, yet it is a quality of the film that is unique and refreshing. There are a few plot holes, but they are only minor and could be easily ignored. The acting is very strong and good, even if some of the actors are not as strong as Truffaut, but overall this is a well made movie with an excellent dramatic theme. I have seen this movie more than 10 times and it never gets boring. "Max and Leo" is a good film for any fan of Truffaut, and it is a very good film, even if some people may not agree with the ending. It is very hard to explain this film, but I will try. A man has a difficult job: to run a family who lives in a small town in Belgium. The father of the two brothers is a loner, and they have difficulty in communicating, as they do not know each other very well. The father tries to show that he is in control of his family, but the son is not convinced. This is the main theme of the film. There is a slow pace in the film, and it is filmed in a way that is very quiet and slow. The camera follows the man in the beginning, and then gradually the camera moves to his surroundings, even when there are other people around him. Truffaut uses this technique to show the loneliness and isolation the father feels in his life, but in the end it is all in vain. The father is showing his children that he has some control over them, yet the son has no idea why the father doesn't seem to care for them anymore. It is only in the final scene that the son is able to understand why the father was in such a hurry to get rid of the two brothers. I am going to repeat this sentence: this film is very good. It is a very good film, but some people may not be able to understand the story if they are not familiar with Truffaut's movies. But it is worth watching, because it shows how important the art of directing is to Truffaut's career, and it is an example of a great film. My rating is 8/10. My vote is 84/100.
A profoundly hilarious movie. Perfect comedy. I will watch it again
This is one of those rare films that you can just watch, and never get bored. It is full of comedy, drama, and action. It also has a very clever ending, that I won't spoil here. It is a very good film, and I think it is very underrated. I recommend it highly.
I loved this movie. Not only it is one of the best films I have ever seen but the cast was perfect. Both of them (Max and Leo) were hilarious, Lorna Truffault as all of us girls from bad neighborhoods like mine must have been on that school-trainer show. And I loved Dany Boon. He was perfectly cast and we really appreciated his role. This movie is fun and it contains much on homosexuals and racism. Some parts can be a bit dark but the comedy is always there. It's like in the films of Jacques Demy. I hope to see him in more films.
This is a film I just happen to catch on TV this morning. It tells a story of a young man who creates a fake news story in order to become a star. I have to say I've been waiting for this film for a long time and I was quite surprised when it finally arrived. I know it is not a film of the same caliber as some of the major stars that have recently made the foray into the mainstream cinema, but I think it is a pretty good film nonetheless. The first thing that struck me about this film was the fact that it was made in Canada and in a more "realistic" way. As in all small-budget Canadian films, there are some pretty bad camera angles and a very poor amount of sound in the production. There are no absurd sound effects such as cats howling or even water running through the roof. I don't even mind these things because I don't think they ruin a film. This film is shot in mostly the same way as most French Canadian films I have seen. It has some very funny dialog, good cinematography, and excellent acting. It is all very pleasant to watch. I would not have paid to see this film in the theater, but I think it is a film to be watched at home. I'm looking forward to seeing it again when it comes out on DVD.
A rather odd film from the director of "Ilsa" and "Bruno". This is one of those films that I've seen many times and I still enjoy it. I think it is probably a bit too long at 2 hours and 25 minutes, but I can't argue with the fact that it is quite an interesting story. It's about a man named Max and his two sons. One son is a soldier, the other is a journalist. Max lives in Paris, the son lives in the suburbs. They have their own problems, but the main reason that Max wants to leave his son is because he has seen the war on television and he wants to leave France before the war. Max and Léon have different ideas about their future, but they are in the same camp. They have many disagreements about the war, but they have the same goals and they are determined to get their son out of the war before it's too late. This is a very different film from the usual war-movie. It is very much like the TV series "The Simpsons" with the characters. It has a similar atmosphere. The actors are great. The character of Max is great, but Léon is just as good. He is very funny and I have no problem with that. I don't really like the son much, but he is good. I think that the film is a bit too long, but it is still very good. The direction is very good, and I have to say that I really like the use of the black and white and the colour of the film. I think that the movie is a bit too long, but it is still a good movie. I think that this film is a great example of a French film. I have seen the movie many times and I still enjoy it. It is a little long, but I still enjoy it.
I remember seeing this movie in the theater when it came out. It was great, I liked it. I saw it again recently and it was even better. It was more in the vein of "Manon of the Spring", which was a masterpiece. The characters are more complex, the plots are more complicated. It has a good pace and it keeps you guessing, but it's a little too long for my liking. I have a feeling that this movie is not going to be appreciated the way it should be, but it was a good movie and I enjoyed it.
The History of Max and Leon is a German comedy drama from 2000, directed by the well-known Martin Liebigs, who made Les Triompheiers et les Musketeers in 1985. It's the story of the failed heist at a concert of the May-Day Concert, and the relationship between the gang, and the dealer. It was filmed in '73 and it starred Georgina Raaff, Karl-Heinz Schneider, Walter Mintz and Stefan Biddle, who played the gang leader. Here's a nice little comedy that is pretty much forgotten by the rest of the world. But for those of you interested in seeing a WWII-style heist with the French Rock Music group May-Day, you may want to give it a look. Rated R; Violence, Profanity, Sex, Nudity and Graphic Violence.
This is a very funny movie. The characters are perfect. You love them. Max - a shy and neurotic guy who loves living in a town without much - if any - human contact and is now enjoying a relationship with the mayor - Max's ex-girlfriend (it's very well made and only mild violence). Lianne - a beautiful and kind-hearted French woman who is at first skeptical but slowly gets on board. Enjolras - the shy but brave kid who is the best friend of Lianne. Tom-Adonair - the mysterious member of the group who is Max's very odd and eccentric best friend. All these people start to learn about each other and they spend the whole film trying to win the love of one another. It's like a Sesame Street episode, and all these groups of characters, many of which have never spoken to each other before, bond and fall in love. I loved it. I laughed so much! At the same time I was sad. I was so happy. At the end of the movie I was thinking that we really might live in a world where love is winning out in a really great way. I was really happy and I was so sad at the same time. Thank you very much for making this movie. I really like the director and he is an amazing writer, so thank you for this great story and great love story. It is very nice to see how much effort went into this. I hope you don't disappoint us and make another great movie. But since this one is so good, we might have to wait a long time for that. Thank you.
It's a story about two heroes who are not very good fighters, and this might be the reason why they end up fighting each other. Their only weapon is a cell phone, and they use it to chat with each other on a daily basis. And, this was when I was listening to The World Is Not Enough. I had never heard that album before, so I wasn't sure about the music. But when I started listening to this song, I understood how important that album is for me. And I actually think that's why I love this movie, because it has this special quality: It's a kind of a musical about love. I think it's a really important piece of music. I still haven't finished listening to it, but I really enjoyed it. It's really good, it's emotional, it's intelligent, and I can listen to it so many times, and I never get bored. The music is really nice, and it gives you a feeling of being in love. The music itself is a combination of Rimbaud's Requiem and the music from The World Is Not Enough, and it reminds you of the time in life when you had to choose. The character of Max is very interesting and he was a very good character to play. If you like this, see other movies: Napoleon Dynamite, Deliverance, Boogie Nights, Twister, Police Academy, Who Am I?, Little Miss Sunshine, Billy Elliot, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, etc. If you like this, check out other movies: The Princess and the Frog, Phone Booth, Man on the Moon, The Patriot, etc. You can watch these movies to learn about love and life, or to see some of your favorite bands. I recommend this to people who love music. A note to people who read this: If you like to listen to music, there are a lot of great artists in this movie, and you should check them out. If you like watching movies, there is also a lot of great movies out there that are available to rent.
I was anticipating seeing this movie for a while, mainly because I love either of the two original novels (including both the sequels) and I was curious to see how they would blend in to the cinematic version. And while I would say it's still a good movie and still a very funny movie, I feel it's a little bit lost in the translation and its supposed to be as French as possible. As an actor and screenwriter, I find it interesting how easy it is to just not care about the original language. Maybe it's the different languages that helps with this, but I do think it is just more realistic. But while it still is a great movie, the theatrical version would definitely be far more better. In my opinion, both would be good in its own right. 8/10
This is a movie that will make you laugh out loud. Actually there was no laugh because the feeling that Max and Lenny lived a nightmare is beyond my comprehension. The time they are on the trench for their disastrous mission is the only funny moment. It is a movie that has all the makings of a great movie. The funny people in the movie are wonderfully placed in every scene. They do their best to give the movie its true color. They are named, shot, and used as they should be. This is not a movie to see if you have a boring day at the office. It will have you laughing from beginning to end. The movie is not just funny, but it is not just entertaining, but it is also an emotional one. This is a movie that will do all of its work to keep your attention on screen. My name is Rachael Wein (Imogen Judson), I am a 24 year old female student who lives in the Southeastern United States and is currently pursuing a degree in Television Production. I am a very strong woman who took a bold decision to study the work of the legendary William Forsythe and Noretta D'amato. After I began to study this movie and the team of people involved in making it I began to realize that the subject matter that this movie was dealing with was too delicate and not suited for viewing by the average Joe. However, I can not find a way to lessen the role that movies like this one have played in my life. The way that these things are put on the screen with a group of people that have already proved to be strong, inspired, and having a positive influence on the world around them has made a difference in my life. With that said, I recommend this movie for everyone who is not afraid to laugh and is looking for a movie to see that has "real life" in it. People need to be reminded that when they go into the theater they are not only watching a movie, but they are witnessing an important piece of work that has been worked on for many years, well into the 20th century. The elements of this movie include the underdog, the arrogant man, the mean spirited and nasty dog, the famous teacher, the handsome French American and his beautiful wife. The movie is not just "a piece of art" like many others will tell you. The work that has gone into the making of this movie is something that should be recognized. It is truly a work that deserves to be seen by everyone who is interested in historical or cultural matters. You can take it for what it is, but for those of you who know the full meaning of the movie this movie will be very revealing.
The plot of this movie is one of the most interesting in my opinion. It is about the struggle of two men, Max and Leon, who were at different points in their lives. One of them was a 'Millionaire' (Pauly Shore) who had a lot of money and was in search of a real woman. The other was a 'Proletarian' (Jean-Louis Trintignant) who had to earn his bread. Their life is quite different, but both are in search of love. Their life takes a turn when they meet a beautiful woman named Lola. Their relationship is interesting, because they have different ways of love. The movie is a nice romance, but it is not just a romantic movie. It is a movie about two men who fight for their love. It is a romantic comedy, but the movie is not just about romance. It is a movie about men who fight for love.
The movie is definitely not for everyone. If you are looking for something really good, keep looking. There are lots of good reviews, but a lot of people said it was really bad. You have to check this movie out. I can't really tell you the story and the way they got it out of the movie, but I do know that it was worth seeing and really funny. I know most people will like this movie. It is funny and also a good historical movie. It was very enjoyable. My vote is 8/10.
In the year 1943, there is a terrible war in Europe. The entire world is being exterminated. Max (Clooney) is the editor of a newspaper and his younger brother Leon (Oscar Isaac) is at the helm. The 2 are occupied with caring for a Jewish family. It is Max's choice to not enter the war and he takes the children with him. Max then tries to return the children to their family, but all the people around him do not want this. It is then that Max begins to travel and meet people, including a number of aristocrats. All in all, the film is a bit predictable. What makes this film worthwhile is Clooney's performance. He captures the young boy's frustration and, at the same time, becomes more sympathetic and even kind-hearted as the film progresses. He can really take his time and in many scenes is so focused on the story that it becomes uncomfortable. The supporting cast is also great. Isaac does well with what he is given, but Omid Djalili and Jean-Louis Trintignant are really strong. Overall, I would not rate this film higher than a 7 or 8.
This is the movie I should have made. Well I think this is a movie for the 20 and over crowd, the other adult audience won't get it. The movie takes a while to get going but once it does it is nothing short of amazing. The first 15 minutes was a little slow but it really picked up during the next 30 minutes. The movie tells the story of two boys who have to go to war in WW1. One of them has to leave his family to go and fight so that his friend will live and the other one won't be sent to a different part of the country. A friendship develops and is strengthened by the war, but also because of the love and respect between the two men. This movie should have been made when WW1 was still in progress and the war was still raging. The acting is superb and the directing and photography is brilliant. The characters are well developed and what do you expect from a French war movie. The story doesn't go far beyond the battles in the beginning. The war scenes are very well done and convey the feelings of the characters in a simple and natural way. But the ultimate message is summed up by the end of the film. No matter what side you're on it's more important that you learn from this film. The film was made in France and it's French made, the acting is great, the dialogue is all French, the backgrounds are good, the lighting is wonderful and the musical score is great. It's a film that really shows what war can do to people and how you can make a better life for yourself and for others when you get back to your home.
I have seen this movie a few times now and it is still one of my favorites. The plot is simple, but not simple. It has a lot of twists and turns that keep you guessing. The humor is there, but it is subtle. It is a nice movie to watch with your loved one. It is a romantic comedy with a great message. It is not a movie for everyone, but it is worth a watch.
I have watched every movie to be in a movie. I just watched this movie the other day. After seeing the movie I was surprised to see how good the acting is. It was a really good story. Every scene was great. The story line was great as well. It was a really great movie!
This film, while perhaps a little different, is pretty darn good, with a very good cast. Some of the scenes are quite amusing, like the one where Max tells Marie-Therese that she'll be able to stay in Paris. This happens when Max is still stuck in a train station; Marie-Therese shows up, and they argue and get it on. That was hilarious. Others include a battle, which Max won, and the moment Marie-Therese says she thinks Max has deserted her, and he gets up and walks out of the train station and has to be chased. Of course, this was so true to life I couldn't resist. The other thing I love about this film is that it gets some of the greatest lines, and uses them with great effect. The "I told you so" is so perfect; I can't get over that one. The first time Max tells Marie-Therese she must have been mistaken. And then, when Max tells Marie-Therese he's looking forward to visiting her. Marie-Therese replies "You're a funny man." And the scene where they're at the concert. The lines are perfect. I always love seeing the scenes from when Marie-Therese comes back to Paris. And they actually did that; the cast were actually in Paris in December, and they didn't have to do much. This film is really funny, and it's always a pleasure to see actors like Laurence Olivier, Jean Rochefort, and Fernand Amiel doing comedy in their native tongue. I have to tell you, this is one of the funniest films I've ever seen. This is, hands down, one of the greatest comedies I've ever seen.
So much French so fast. What a deal. This is what I'm talking about. And this movie is no exception. The story is pretty good and the direction is so-so but this movie is so much more. When I see the cinema talk about what this movie was made for, I could see that the director really knows about telling a story and the characters are very interesting. I'm watching the movie again, again and again. And there's always something new in it. And I can't explain it better than that. I don't need to. Just see it and you'll see that. One word of advice: watch it once and you'll never get bored and you'll understand everything of this movie. So see it. And I'm telling you, I'm going to. I promise you that. God bless.
I've never really been into films from France and I was quite disappointed to see that this film was not on my radar. My friend told me that it was a good film and I was pleasantly surprised. I was intrigued by the French feel to the film, but I was also intrigued by the political aspects of it. The characters and the story are quite interesting, the plot is interesting and there are a lot of good laughs in the film. I'm not sure if it is a comedy or not, but I enjoyed it. I highly recommend it!
The greatest thing about this film is its brevity. It is only 75 minutes long. The rest of the time is spent on character development, which is done brilliantly. The film is an important contribution to the genre, and one of the most accessible. The acting is superb. It is not a story that will hold your attention for two hours. The dialogue is witty and the plot is compelling. The dialogue is really well done, it is one of the best that I've ever heard. I loved the writing, the characters, and the acting. I really loved this film. I would recommend it to anyone. It is really a great film, and I highly recommend it.
A film that makes you laugh, cry, think, and talk about a film that you have seen many times. Max and Lenny are two people who have been raised by a single mother and have a lot of money to throw around. Max is a stand-up comic, and Lenny is a well-known writer. When the two meet, they fall in love, and it's up to Max to get Lenny back. The movie has lots of funny moments, but it's more about the love between the characters. The only thing that bothered me was that there were so many different people in the movie, but it's not really a movie about anything. It's more about two people falling in love.
Finally, after all these years, I saw the movie at the cinema. I didn't know what to expect. I knew it was about the real life events, but I had no idea that it was based on a book. The story is brilliant and the acting is flawless. I really didn't understand the negative reviews. Everyone should watch this movie, it is truly a masterpiece, a true tour-de-force and a classic.
Well, perhaps I'm old fashioned, but I liked the story of a spoiled boy growing up in a wealthy family and being good natured. Especially considering that a poor girl has to marry into an aristocratic family. The acting is great. Loved how Mme. Blondel (Jean-Louis Trintignant) made the girl look good. She was born to be a movie star, and one of the most amazing things about her was that her eyes were sparkling just like the others, even though they were all lined up and the tiny corner on the top of her left eye had a red speckle. And of course, Jean-Louis was wonderful. Both of the characters in this film were pretty much perfect, and they were a true treat to see together. Some people have complained that the characters were over the top and cartoonish, but I thought that the whole thing was a lot more realistic and full of life than most of what you see in the movies. You'd be surprised at what you'd find if you try looking for good movies to rent. I think it is a must see.
As a stand alone film, I would rate this movie a 9. The setting and characters are so well done and the performances by all the actors are very good. The movie is very witty and has a very good message. I liked the chemistry between all the actors, especially in the beginning. The movie is about the life of Max and Leon, the parents of a French boy who is "liberated" from the Nazis and who wants to tell the world about the horrors of the Nazi regime. It is a very well told story that I think would be interesting to a general audience.
It is my opinion that a great deal of the reviews for this film are based on the fact that it is a comedy, and the most recent ones seem to be much more critical than the ones that I've read before. This is a fine film and I recommend it to anyone who has not seen it yet. There are a few things that are a bit predictable and are not always on the mark, but this is a pretty good film. I would have liked to see more of the French countryside, but it is not necessary to have a huge outdoor landscape to be a good film. This is a well written story and the actors are very good, especially Max, who is a great character. The writing is a little on the pedestrian side, but that is to be expected from a writer like Coppola, who is no stranger to the written word. I don't know how this film will be received, but I can assure that it will be very good.
What could be wrong with this film? It is quite possibly the best French film I have seen in years. It is the most politically correct film in France that I have seen, and one of the most bizarre. One thing for sure, the best lines in the film: "If you're a member of the Communist party, you're too stupid to know when to leave the room!" "Why don't you take the scissors out of your hair?" "Why don't you take the scissors out of your face?" and then the most comical one of all: "I'm a communist. So am I." The way in which the story is told is absolutely superb. Everything is so clearly set up, the way characters are portrayed is superb. The chemistry between Marie-Thierry Giraud and Anne Villeret is fantastic. A far cry from the horrible characters portrayed in these other films. Some may find it cheesy, but I think that is the point. It is comical in it's honesty, as well as the story that is told. Very unusual French film. 8/10.
I've read all the negative reviews for this movie and they aren't as bad as some of you make them out to be. I liked this film and was very amused to see the critics making fun of it. I loved this film. So I re-watched it and I was amazed at how great it was. If you liked "Antichrist" then you'll like this. If you didn't like "Antichrist" then you probably don't have the sense of humor to enjoy this. The directing, cinematography, music, and the acting were all very good. I thought everyone did a really good job. Sure, this is not a great film but it is still very funny. I'd say this is a film to see when you are bored with your own life. It's also a great film to watch if you are feeling lonely. Or if you feel like it's just about you.
Max & Leon (Francois Carrousel and Francois Berleand) are an eclectic bunch of mercenaries with a knack for the ball-and-chain 'battle' of the art of war. Together with their canine companion Dieudonne (Lou Jospin), the pair venture across Europe in pursuit of a profit. They may be painted and decorated war heroes, but when their Lotharios, Rambo-style gang of henchmen move in, things take a serious turn for the worse. Their journey is like a roller-coaster ride, with more than one hit. Don't Miss: Max & Leon (when they ride the train; literally) for their freaky and terrifically crazed set of frenetic, exaggerated war scenes. Also, consider giving Nicolas Ghesquière's 'Le Tour de Rouge' (1891) a chance when it comes to your anti-war-wanna-be-a-hero's. It's a French Gothic classic!
I knew it was going to be a comedy, I've watched a lot of the movies with comedy, but the thing was, it was so good, so great.I love the way that they described everything, that was great. It was also very sweet.I really like that this movie is making fun of all the religions and the groups. It really makes you laugh and enjoy all the things that are there,it also makes you feel good.People that have seen this movie will definitely like it.
Lest you think this was just a pantomime, this movie IS the point of it. My brother who was 7 when I saw it told me that Max/Lelio (Jean Reno) was just a crazy yokel. This is one of the few times that I can actually see what he was talking about. An amazing ensemble of actors and crew, including newcomers Carla Bruni, Pierfrancesco Cappuccio, Marian Keneally, Mary Mursud, Jean Reno, and others, are all incredible. I truly loved the French/Canadian countryside in the film. The music is wonderful, as well. I can't wait for the DVD. Highly recommend this movie for anyone who likes action movies, comedy, or a mix of the two. Oh, and don't forget the "Black and White Bunny" trophy.
When the "work of art" (in this case, the screenplay) fails to be funny, the cinema will be less enjoyable. The problem in "The Cell" is that there is not enough comedy, and the script is not that funny. The cast is very funny, with Rachid Bouchares playing the "hero", and he is a comic genius. Mira Sorvino is a comedic double, and I am a little surprised that she has not done a better job in this film. The story is clever and has surprises and great scenes. The shooting is very good and reminds me of Francis Ford Coppola. This is probably the best film of Nicolas Winding Refn. If there is a downside to "The Cell", it is the title: you do not know who is the main character until the end, and there are many people that have a lot of cameo roles. Overall, it is a very good film. I am waiting to see if the other films by "The Cell" director will be so good. It is a funny and not stupid film, but then the funny parts are not very funny. The film is rated 7.6 on IMDb, which is very good and I think it is a good film.
Max and Leon have a good relationship and a fun way of life. It seems they both are perfectly happy. Everyone is looking forward to the big event. To Max it's a party and to Leon it's a farewell party. Before he leaves, the party is going to be bigger and better and Max has the right idea. He calls up Leon and tells him to make him a very good final present. Leon is in a bind. He wants to leave his country but his wife is upset about his leaving. He won't leave until his wife gets back. Leon says the party will be over and then he says goodbye. When he wakes up the next morning he wants to get back to the party. He thinks he can only do that by helping Max who is moving into a huge house. But before Leon can get a job he has to get a job in a barber shop. He makes the mistake of accepting a job and is fired. His wife is not happy. Leon and Max just get in their car and drive to the barber shop where they go to learn some things about the job. They meet Max's father who is new to the barber shop and they help him. Max and Leon have a great time and have lots of fun. They are happy because they know there is no place for them in their old country. Leon and Max have a happy future. They are going to be free to do whatever they want to do. And Leon and Max don't mind because they are in a lot of fun.
Wow. I have never seen such a good comedy of a movie. I think it was a masterpiece. The film is real and full of content. The real story of friendship and solidarity. This story will be ever more vivid in your heart. This is what I felt after watching it. Max, the little boy, has a big heart. He knows nothing about politics or war. But his heart is full of courage and is willing to help the people of Paris and France. But he is also dangerous. His battle is not just against his friend. The enemy is bigger than any of them. It is the whole world. His mission is to bring peace to all, especially those in his home country. I saw his friends in his friend's war. I saw his friends' mother, sister, and wife being killed. I saw the normal people being burned alive. The civilians were also killed in the war. So you should also know that France was in a war. The country was hit by bombings, and people were burning alive. This film is an eye opener for everyone. I am sure that it will be a good inspiration for all people. People should see it and then they should vote. For this movie, they need to vote 8. The movie deserves a great score of 8.
I have watched this film many times, and i never get tired of it. When you see the elderly couple Max and Leon working together, you know that they are a couple. The film is about their life, with a lot of love and passion. Sometimes you get the feeling that they are dying, but that's the only way they can be together. They are so romantic and good at their job, that they never get tired of working together. A kind of romance, is possible, but only if you understand the characters.
The movie is silly but it is funny, this is not a stupid movie, its a movie for kids, I recommend it for you too!
In his French film L'AMOUR (1954) legendary French director Henri Matisse (reigning with his trademark humor, style and imagination as the undisputed king of the French films) gives us a movie that has the value of being a mirror of his own personal thoughts on what is best for the average human being and what is best for the image he creates of himself and his works. As in the book the film is filled with in-jokes that are so subtle and inconsequential that they make the film more engaging than funny. The film reflects on the perils of living a life of luxury,, poverty and loneliness, with a serious message that it is better to live a noble life as a simple peasant and be called a bad name than to live as an "aristocrat", a "gentleman", or a "artist". The movie is pure genius, as Matisse's homage to himself and his films. At the same time he is almost the perfect mirror of the French movie makers of the period, who put in a much more serious way what was being said by the powerful French politicians and priests.
I have watched this movie many times, and it is always a good watch. I do not understand the negative reviews. I really liked this movie. The dialogs are good, the characters are well developed, and the plot is easy to follow. I think that this is a great movie for a movie night. It is a perfect movie for the family, and it is not to be missed. 9 out of 10. (as a french movie)
If you've ever watched a French movie, you have seen this movie. It's the same plot as a French movie, except it's not set in France. It's set in America. And it's funny. The movie stars the great French actor Jean-Pierre Melville as Max and the French actor Jean Reno as Léon. It's a great comedy. I would recommend this movie to anyone.
The classic movie of all the "good guys" is now better, thanks to the new Monty Python/Cavill "Oculus" of "Dolphin Tale". In the end, in the story of an old friend who finds a great treasure in the ocean and falls in love with a stranger, great family, great servants, and a great castle, the great "threat" of the evil Queen is confronted, and the conflict begins. I can't understand why there were not more Python episodes of the Monty Python TV series, because their funny dialogs, and scripts, and heroes of a comedy show (except with his new character of the Leviathan) are very very strong. "Dolphin Tale" is such a story, with a brilliant script, of the author of the "Onanist", so much strong and funniest script, you could find an entire whole range of characters. The main protagonist, Max, is very interesting, and even more interested in another protagonist of the story, Leon, who is too reserved, but courageous and kindhearted, with the big mistake of a coward. His strong friends Leon, and Houdini, especially with the introductions of "Mr. Le Loi" (Tilda Swinton), and the interesting comedy character, "Mr. Lector" (Simon Callow). Another excellent character, I think, is "Mr. Arguello" (Jason Flemyng) who is the guy who works for "Mr. Houdini", and can help him in the defeat of "Mr. Houdini" (the great Jeremy Irons). I didn't know that he has a funny punch, that he can talk about water with his friend "Eternal Justice", and that he can fight with "Mr. Houdini". I also like the character of "Mr. Houdini" (the great Ian Hart), because the comic nature of the characters reminds of his fame. I've also liked the strong dialogs, with the love story between Leon and Max, and the relationships between the characters. In the end, the great cast: Ian Hart, Jeremy Irons, Tilda Swinton, Simon Callow, Ray Winstone, and Cate Blanchett; the amazing language: Cantonese, French, Italian, Spanish, Mandarin, Mandarin Chinese, French, Italian, Portuguese. In addition, the Great Adventure story: "With dogs and swords", the Knights Templar, and "The Brave One" as well. For example, the scene between the two "heroes" of the adventure (the knights and the swan, are very funny, the big Cate Blanchett). With such a movie, I think it is very special to see the whole of the Python, so strong that they can build, "The Holy Grail" and "Pythons" in their images, and even their language.
I am a great fan of the humor in films such as this. The film has several excellent one-liners and many quotable lines. All the characters are relatable, and I thought the actors did a good job portraying these wonderful characters. All in all, a very fun and entertaining movie. All the stars put in great work. I would have liked to have seen more character development for the characters. A great film for fans of that genre or anyone looking for some lighthearted entertainment.
This is a lovely movie. I love it. I love it so much. It is one of the few movies that have ever gotten me completely and utterly intoxicated. At first I had to keep asking myself the question, what is so "loveable" about this movie? I realized that it was nothing like most of the other movies I have seen and I liked this one more than the rest. So, how about I give this movie a 10?
As a young woman, I really liked this movie. It didn't feel overly sappy or too cloying in the least. It's a story about growing up and making mistakes and it works just fine. It's a pity, then, that this movie is so few and far between. And in the age of Netflix and Amazon, you could probably rent a copy and watch it over and over again. It's worth the wait. The cast is quite good. I really like all of them. And the direction is exceptional. I think that this was the first French film I've ever seen where the director wanted to tell a story and not just run around setting up the story.
