I had the opportunity to watch the new film "A Conjuring New Life" (short-release) at the Toronto International Film Festival last night. The opening scene, featuring a masked gunman killing a couple and their young daughter, is very frightening and extremely well done. A series of unconfirmed supernatural killings, complete with music and dialogue, follow, eventually culminating in a sequence that I thought was quite effective. This is definitely a "must-see" film for the horror genre fans. This is definitely one that you should not pass up. If you are a fan of the genre, or are a fan of horror films in general, then this film is definitely worth watching. All of the acting was very well done and the cinematography was excellent. The director and writer (Tobin Marston and Maria Valdes) have definitely created a great film that will satisfy most fans of the genre. It is definitely worth the price of admission.

The story is interesting, and has a lot of potential, but is still not well developed. It is good, however, to see another horror film about a haunted house, that does not have a traditional horror feel. It also has a good deal of blood, and some really creepy scenes. It is worth watching, but it is not perfect. The characters are too one dimensional, and the story doesn't get better. I give it a 6/10.

The main thing that kept me watching was the concept. A young girl named Anne (Mia Wasikowska) is transported to a mansion, supposedly haunted by a spirit. The only thing that is really haunted is her subconscious. It's kind of a time travel movie. It's good for people who like time travel movies, but it isn't that great of a time travel movie. The only reason that I would recommend this movie to anyone is if you're looking for a good horror movie. And you've seen all the ones that are out there already, then you might like this one. But you might not.

The end is a massive let down, there is no explanation as to why things are happening and why it's the end, it just leaves you with no resolution. The only thing that saves this movie from being a complete dud is the cinematography and the original score by Jonathan Demme. I'd give this a 7.5/10.
