The Earl's fate is sealed when he takes the sword of the Holy Grail to the gates of Jerusalem, in order to prevent the Turks from entering the Holy Land. While in the Holy Land, the Earl's friend and his wife become involved in the trappings of the royal court, and Alat-e Din and his henchmen are making their way towards Jerusalem. The Earl, the Earl's wife, and the Duke of York, all get involved in a plan to get the Holy Grail back. If this sounds like a straightforward, predictable film, it's not. The film is very much a romantic comedy, and the events are very much intertwined. The film is funny, funny, funny, but it's also very serious.
